Hi Lorraine and others! Just found 2 new sites that may interest you. They were suggested on Smart Computing. A woman (Debe) asked a few questions about HTML. I wasn't sure I should invite her and a whole bunch of other people to join us so I didn't. The 2 sites are hereand hereHave fun reading! Réjean

Hi Réjean, Here is a site that I really like and would recommend. The tutorials are based on the W3C Web standards. Sometimes you will find a tutorial but it is using an older standard - for example, HTML 4.0 rather than 4.01 This site covers a lot of ground - HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Server Scripting and so on. http://www.w3schools.com/default.aspA lot of reading to digest but also an excellent resource site. :yes Gail

Hi Gail! :hi Thanks a lot. It looks very good and up to date which is (as you said) important. I'm starting to get a nice little bibliography. I signed your guest list because I am trying to find out if I can make mine work without using any third party such as the one you are using. What I would receive, right now if I or someone would fill up the form on my Contacts page would look like this: first=rejean&MI=M&surname=Chamberland&adr1=301+Mountain+road&adr2=&city=North+Pole&state=depress&zip=&country=&email=&genre=Mr.&age=Still+a+baby&revenue=less+than+1+dollar I'll see what I can do, maybe there is something on the page you posted the link for. Happy web page making. Love. Réjean :cheek

Hi Réjean,
When I first published my website, I used my personal space allotted to me by my ISP. However, they do not allow CGI scripts. Therefore I went the route I did when deciding how to do a guestbook. I use Response-O-Matic - the info that a person puts in the form comes to me via E-Mail. I then add the info to my guestbook. (I usually just copy and paste.) I have now gone with a different web hosting company that allows the use of CGI scripts; however, I still do my guestbook the same.
The lady who taught HTML and web design told me she didn't like guestbooks because you have no control over what people write. By receiving the info via E-Mail, if someone were to write a comment using profane language, racist remarks, or plain silly comments, etc., I simply would not post that person's "signing". I certainly don't mind any negative comments but I would not want profanity, slanderous remarks, etc. to taint my guestbook.
Gail

Hi Gail! Thanks for the reply! This is, I think, one of the main reasons I was thinking of having a full control over a potential guestbook I would have. As you said negative (but constructive) remarks are welcome and would be added to the guestbook as an example of a better way that a thing could be done concerning either a web page or a business (or social interest, or community activity, whatever). It seems, also, to me that people are bombarded enough everyday with adds, and reminders about their financial activities that telling me what they want to (and only what they want to in a "purely fictional" survey such as a guestbook can be) is not worth pestering them as they would be in going a commercial way such as Response-O-Matic. I remember looking into it , oh! 2 or 3 years ago when I started practicing HTML with the web site you saw I had at the beginning of my invovement in this forum and decided not to use it. I know that if I had time I could use a programming language such as Perl or C++ and make my Email Inbox deal with the flood of responses my email doesn't get everyday day because I have more fun (like Lorraine!!! Hoping she is having fun learning HTML and CSS and what not) in the process of making a web site than in administering one. :tread Time to go to bed, soon, spent the whole night trying to jump from Mozilla 1.5 which I had on my 2nd computer to 1.7b (through one download and several installations because it worked right away after I had installed it and stopped after I had restarted the computer. Good night everyone! Love you all. :scooter :kybrd :scooter

Hi Lorraine, I just tried the link to HTML Tags and it gave a page not found to update. Do you have a new link for this site? Thanks, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, I'm not Lorraine but thought I would put in a response anyway - Lorraine is likely at work now. Here is the link for HTML Goodies and 'tags': HTML 4.01 TagsAlso, this is another excellent site - I don't think I knew about it when this thread was initially started last year: HTML TagHTH Gail

Thank you so much Gail. You are always right on top as usual. I haven't been able to be here in a long while due to family things, a lot of illness and such. It is good to be back and see you haven't changed a bit. I have been using some of the HTML sites you gave me before and I am slowly learning. I hope to relly get into it as soon as the yard work is over. hehe. I have learned to do my graphics for the site. I am getting excited about it. Hope all has been well with everyone here. Hugs, Carolyn
