I just did a 'Test' album using the URL method - I selected 18 images and none were lost. I think the problem had to be with the other 2 albums - the fact I had numbered them 1. 2. 3. and so on. There were 2 extra files that showed this time again and I simply did not select them. You can see Gallery 1 here: http://www.homegail.com/gallery

Thanks, Gail
I am going to take some time when I'm less tired, like tomorrow, and carefully read what you posted. I did a copy and past of your post to MSWord and even the screen shots came thru readable, surprised me.
Gail and Lorraine, either or both, answer me this one queston - If I have been uploading everything in my gallery, over 2000 pictures and images by the method used by Gallery, which is really a very simple, easy and straightforward method , then what will Cute FTP do that I can't already do.
I got the impression that Cute FTP would simplify that procedure and, frankly, at this point, I can't see where it can.
Can either of you clarify that for me because that is really bothering me and leaving me with the feeling that I am really missing something here. I DO NOT have any feeling of having been misled, but if I did it would have been because I misled myself. Basically, all My Gallery exists for, is to make available an easy method of sharing things with family members and friends. I have no grand expectations to ambitions for it and am quite happy with what I have been doing thus far over the past couple of years and two hard drive failures.
Would one or both of you do me the great favor of clarifying the use of, and benefit of Cute FTP for me. I need to make a decision as to what I am going to do from this point on. Now it's off to beddy bye, and be lulled to sleep by sound of the gentle rain falling.

Hi Richard,
To my way of thinking, I see the URL method as faster than the Form method which you have been using. First, I can only get one box to open at a time to browse and select a file to upload - I know there is somewhere you can change that to 10? but I haven't found it yet. By using an FTP program such as Cute FTP and the URL upload method via Gallery - you can batch add files. Put another way - you can upload many more than a few files at a time. I guess it is a matter of personal preference.
As I have said previously Richard, I use my FTP program frequently but I have more than Gallery on my web site and I make changes through out the year. For one thing, I run a few php scripts now - and they often need updating due to security issues. I use my FTP program to upload the new php files, my edited html files and so on. I have some video files on my site which have to be uploaded - I have some audio files and I try and change my Old Time Radio files (clips from old radio shows) every few months. Of course all of these have to be uploaded to the TCH server. I can use Cute FTP to change permissions on files when installing a script and I can use the program to synchronize files on my computer and the server. I would be absolutely lost without an FTP program.

First, I can only get one box to open at a time to browse and select a file to upload - I know there is somewhere you can change that to 10? I think it was in the upgrade from v1.5.2 to v1.5.3, that they changed the form upload interface. Yes, it you used to be able to select 10 uploads at once. With the form method now, you just keep clicking 'browse' or what ever it is, and it then brings up a second, or third etc, browse box. But the easiest way to upload to Gallery, is the XP publisher agent http://www.webpagefun.com/forum/index.php?topic=361.msg3633#msg3633

I don't know what the limit is but I uploaded 12 images to Gallery last night in about 2 minutes. It really did make it easier. You just keep clicking on the browse box and add another file from your My Documents folder.
I appreciate all the help I have received from Tom, Gail and Lorraine but I think I bit off more than I can chew with Cute FTP and I am going to uninstall it and request a refund.
In addition I upset Tom greatly, for which I am truly sorry. No one could have been more helpful, or patient throughout my relationship with all of you. I value his friendship more than I realized and would hope that he will permit me to ask for advice or assistance with Gallery as issues come up. I just don't want him thinking of me as a dumb, thick-headed old man, which, I feel he does. I thought I could tackle anything with a little help but the FTP issue just totally buffaloed me and I find myself going away from it with my tail between my legs.
It is not something that I am proud of, but I have to accept the limitations that age and intelligence have placed upon me.
Gail, I know you did a lot of work yesterday on my issues, and that knowledge makes my decision that much more painful. Please don't think too badly of me.
Lorraine I know you, too, spent time on my behalf as well. I hope you will not think too badly of me.
This just seems to me to be the only way out, as I have felt at times that I was losing my mind. Just some concepts, I guess, I'll never be able to grasp. I felt that way at times way back in the beginning of this long journey, but the instruction and patience shown me by you three wonderful people allowed me to finally grasp whatever it was that was bothering me.
I was younger then.

Richard, the reason I use a FTP program, is for my coppermine and my website, to make things much easer for me, it was very hard for me to understand CuteFTP, for a long time, but like I said before, I wouldn't give up Cute FTP now. It's fine if you rather not use it, and if for some reason you can't get your money back, (but I think you will), don't get rid of it, just leave it on your computer, and maybe someday, you'll want to try it, when your mine is more clear. I know for myself, in the last year or so, I can only do one thing at a time. There is more things I want to do, and programs I want to try out, but for now, I just have to put it on hold. Lorraine I know you, too, spent time on my behalf as well. I hope you will not think too badly of me.
No, I don't think badly of you at all Richard, and I'm sure Tom or Gail doesn't either. Gail did a wonderful tutorial for FTP and Gallery, that I know it won't go to waste, and all the information in here from Gail, or Tom, I'm sure it will benefit others that need to know how to use a FTP program. and I know it'll help me when I have the time to download and work with Gallery 2.

Hi Richard, If you are comfortable with uploading to Gallery using the Form method - which is what you have always done - then that is the method to use. It really is a personal preference on how one uploads to Gallery - just like it is a personal preference on which photo album software or php scripts to use. As far as the FTP program - that is your decision if you wish to get rid of it. They may give you a refund - I don't know - let us know how you make out. You can tell them when I tried to open the Home Edition after installing it (and I had just downloaded it), it said the 30 day trial was over and I couldn't open the program. When you go to download the software - it says limitations - 30 day trial. This is false advertising. I just don't want him thinking of me as a dumb, thick-headed old man, which, I feel he does. I thought I could tackle anything with a little help but the FTP issue just totally buffaloed me and I find myself going away from it with my tail between my legs.
Tom can speak for himself but I know he doesn't think of you as a 'dumb, thick-headed old man'. Both Tom and I were getting frustrated with the fact that you are impatient at times and were not carefully reading the posts on this forum before replying. It seemed like our instructions were being 'skimmed over' and then you were back hammering at the same thing - why do I need this Cute FTP? OR - you would do things totally different to what we had suggested and then wonder what was wrong. None of us think of you as dumb - there is no need to feel like you are "going away from it with my tail between my legs." It is not something that I am proud of, but I have to accept the limitations that age and intelligence have placed upon me. We all have to accept that - we all age everyday. I know I get frustrated because I can't do some physical work the way I used to - but that is part of the aging process unfortunately. I don't agree with the latter part of the statement - I don't think your intelligence has placed limitations on you anymore than the rest of the world's population. I don't see you as a stupid man. I am sure we all have concepts that we have great difficulty comprehending regardless of our age. By the way Richard, I don't see 77 as old. That number was old by yesterday's standard but not today. When I was working in psychogeriatrics some years ago now - old-old was considered to be 80. I don't know what the text books say now but I think I would consider the category old-old to be at least 85 and likely closer to 90. So there you go - you have a few years to go yet my friend. Gail, I know you did a lot of work yesterday on my issues, and that knowledge makes my decision that much more painful. Please don't think too badly of me.
Yes I spent many hours yesterday working on Gallery 1.5.3 but let's look at it this way - I now have a sample Gallery 1 to put back on Gail's Playground as a link - and I gained some knowledge along the way. Some good did come out of it in the end. Richard, I will always be here to help anyone if I can - now there are many times that I don't know the answer and therefore can't help much - but I will help if I can. The only thing I ask is that you please be a little more patient sometimes and it will make our task a little easier. I was younger then.
Weren 't we all! But look at all the life's experiences you gained along the way and you couldn't say that when you were younger. I guess there is always a silver lining in the cloud - isn't that how the saying goes - we just don't always see the silver lining at the time. Cheers. Gail

Those actions were my frustrations venting because I couldn't seem to grasp what was being said and the program would not respond as you said it should and I couldn't comprehend why, or what I was not doing or was doing wrong. I truly apologize for that and I should have been more patient, although impatience wasn't the greater basis of my actions. I should have been able to ask more intelligent questions, but when a person is as confused by something as I was by Cute FTP then intelligent questions are sometimes hard to come by. I have just had so much on my mind of late that I go thru each day somewhat befuddled by, I don't know, perhaps life. My wife and I both have some health issues, mostly hers, I have a daughter dealing with alcohol abuse and with whom I cannot communicate because I don't know where she is. She is 49 years old. I have a son-in-law whom I love dearly, as if he were my own flesh and blood, dealing with recurring pancreatic imflammation, he is 53. We are at a point in life where we just cannot travel, because of health issues, to see these people and try to help them and it is driving me nuts. Sometimes life just sucks. Anyway, GlobalScape will be issuing a refund without arguement. That's about the only good thing happening right now. Plus, your support plus that of Tom and Lorraine are keeping me going more than you may realize.

No problems Richard . Maybe we can tackle that FTP again this winter, when we all might have more time. I know how things can gnaw at you, when you can't figure them out, and I have had to walk away from things like that myself, it's not worth the aggravation. Coppermine is one of them for me Powerquest 'Backup Magic' (something like that) is another one, I spent $70 for it years ago, and could never make it do what it claimed (make a restorable hard drive image (maybe that was its name...Drive Image)), and write that image over my home network to a different computer. I had to give up on it, but it is still here somewhere My Dad, a Civil Engineer (and at 72 is too busy to retire ), can whittle off how many acre feet of water are in 'X' amount of gallons of water pumped in 'Y' amount of hours, in a matter of seconds in his head, and also can make computers do what ever is needed at his place of employment http://www.wsd.dst.il.us/staff.shtml, but he can't figure out how to upload pictures to Gallery , he emails them to me and has me do it. So you have him beat there
